BAGUIO CITY — Around 85 percent of establishments in Baguio’s central business district were found compliant with sanitation and business permit regulations following a series of inspections conducted by the City Health Services Office (CHSO) and the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD).
Engineer Albert Pay-an, chief of the CHSO Sanitation Division, reported over the weekend that only 98 out of 637 establishments inspected since Oct. 1 were found with violations.
Inspectors assessed compliance not only with toilet and handwashing standards, but also with food preparation and service regulations, potable water quality, and proper waste disposal.
Food outlets were also checked for safety, proper labeling, valid expiration dates and hygienic selling conditions.
Business owners were reminded to adhere strictly to the Sanitation Code, which mandates safe food handling, clean water access, adequate hygiene facilities and regular maintenance.
The POSD, meanwhile, conducted parallel inspections to ensure storefront cleanliness and compliance with anti-littering and anti-smoking ordinances.
Last month, Mayor Benjamin Magalong warned establishments to improve sanitation within 10 days or face penalties, including possible business permit cancellation, to prevent a repeat of a diarrhea outbreak. (PNA)
