Around 1,000 families lost their homes after a massive fire broke out in a residential area in Bagong Silangan, San Nicolas 3, Bacoor, Cavite, on Wednesday morning.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), an estimated 600 houses were destroyed, with damage pegged at ₱2.2 million.
The blaze, which started past 10 a.m., quickly spread through the densely populated area and was raised to the fourth alarm before firefighters declared it out at 12:56 p.m.
A total of 66 fire trucks from the BFP and volunteer fire brigades responded to the incident. No casualties or injuries were reported, although one cat rescued from the blaze sustained burns on parts of its body.
Several affected families are now temporarily sheltered at the Bagong Silangan basketball court and another nearby evacuation area in Talon Dos, Las Piñas City.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
