Hailing the activity as one of the biggest ever conducted in the country, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday destroyed 2.9 tons of seized dangerous drugs worth over P16 billion at a waste management facility in Trece Martires City, Cavite.
In a statement, PDEA said the destruction of the contraband worth P16,086,800,984 was the second largest in the history of drug law enforcement.
“It is also worth mentioning that today’s destruction of P16 billion, or 2.9 tons of dangerous drugs, was the second largest in terms of volume and value in the country’s history of drug law enforcement,” PDEA said.
“The largest was the destruction of P19.9 billion of drugs, weighing 3.7 tons last March 16, 2023, also in Cavite. Both unprecedented destructions happened during the present administration,” it added.
As ordered by the court, the PDEA said the 2,904,756.6818 grams of solid illegal drugs and 14,117.8500 milliliters of liquid illegal drugs were destroyed through thermal decomposition or thermolysis.
Among the destroyed items, which served as evidence in illegal drug cases, were the following:
Included in the destroyed contraband were 1,480,315.2 grams of shabu seized in Subic, Zambales on June 20, 2025 and 239,550.94 grams of shabu in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on October 16, 2021.
Also included were 119,843.3207 grams of shabu from the Port of Calapan on March 21, 2025; 49,705.2 grams of shabu in Muntinlupa City on March 14, 2025; 9,826.7 grams of shabu at Batangas Port on September 16, 2025; and 28,986.2 grams of shabu in Parañaque City on May 10, 2025.
The destruction was witnessed by top officials from the PDEA, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the House of Representatives, among others.
“The destruction process is always done in full view of the public guided by the principle of transparency and accountability to address issues of drug recycling,” PDEA chief Undersecretary Isagani Nerez said.
“Our actions are open to the Filipino people as championed under the “Bagong Pilipinas” program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.,” he added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
