An anti-corruption protest was held outside an exclusive village in Makati City overnight.
The protest was conducted in front of the Antonio Arnaiz gate of Dasmariñas Village, according to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita on Monday.
The rallyists called on the Marcos administration not to be blind and deaf to the corruption happening in government.
They also called for plunderers to return what they took from public funds.
Earlier, the protesters marched from Manila to Makati City.
According to Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga, they will conduct the rallies daily in front of villages.
“Ngayon sila naman ‘yung makakaramdam ng feeling na ‘yung kalaban nila na naghahanap ng hustisya ay nasa labas ng mga gates nila,” Barzaga said.
(Now they will feel what it’s like to have their opponents who are seeking justice position themselves outside their gates.)
Barzaga also said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should resign.
“We all thought he would make things better but things are not better… Sobrang daming nawalan ng tiwala sa kanya (So many people lost trust in him) and I think it’s time for him to resign,” he said.
At almost midnight on Sunday, more police came to the protest area.
It rained however at past 2 a.m. Monday, prompting rallyists to disperse. Around 50 protesters more or less stayed.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said more or less 200 police personnel were deployed to the area and that around 200 rallyists were present.
“We are observing maximum tolerance but the problem is wala namang humaharap na organizer,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Baesa, Southern Police District acting deputy district director for operations, said.
“We are trying to prevent them from getting close to the gate. Kasi private property ito eh. Anyway nailabas naman nila yung kanilang hinanaing eh,” he added.
(This is private property. Anyway, they were able to air their grievances.)
At past 3 a.m., the remaining protesters lit candles for their prayer vigil, before dispersing at past 4 a.m.
As of 7 a.m., no more protesters were around but a police mobile and some PNP personnel were still in the area to monitor developments.
Palace comment
Meanwhile, asked about the protest action led by Barzaga outside Dasmarinas Village in Makati City, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President does not give attention to politicking as he is busy working for the country.
”Pero ngayon muli sasabihin natin, ang Pangulo ay abala sa pagtatrabaho at kung anuman po ang pamumulitikang ginagawa ng iba hindi po iyan pinapansin sa ngayon ng Pangulo,” she said in a briefing on Monday.
(But now we will again say that the President is busy with his work and he will not give attention to any politicking done by others.)
Castro also said Marcos will not hinder any protest actions provided that they are being held within the bounds of the law. -KG, GMA Integrated News
