MANILA, Philippines — Counterfeit goods valued at P121 million have been seized by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in separate operations in General Trias and Imus in Cavite, the NBI reported on Wednesday.
The raids, conducted by the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD), stemmed from a complaint filed by Mayank Vaid, a Hong Kong-based lawyer representing the luxury brand Louis Vuitton in the Asia-Pacific region and China.
Vaid told the NBI that counterfeit Louis Vuitton products such as bags and wallets are being sold online and in several stores in the Philippines.
Rodolfo Ignacio, chief of the NBI-IPRD, said that counterfeit products sold online are more polished than those in Divisoria.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago commended operatives of the NBI-IPRD for the operation against the proliferation of fake luxury goods.
Santiago urged the public not to patronize counterfeit goods and products.
He said violation of intellectual property rights harmed both consumers and legitimate businesses as well as deprived the country of revenues.
