Last year, Huawei introduced its first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT. A new leak has surfaced online regarding the successor of the Mate XT. The leak reveals the potential chipset for Huawei’s next-gen tri-foldable smartphone.
Tipster Fixed Focus Digital on the Chinese social media site Weibo suggests the Kirin 9020 chipset for the second-generation tri-fold phone. For comparison, the Huawei Mate XT featured the Kirin 9010 processor. The Kirin 9020 is Huawei’s newer processor and is also utilized in Huawei’s flagship Mate 70 series.
The Kirin 9020 is a 12-core processor based on a 7nm process. It features the Maleoon 920 GPU clocked at 840MHz. The single-core performance of Kirin 9020 is said to be between the Snapdragon 888+ and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. While the multi-core is said to be on par with the Dimensity 8300 and Dimensity 9200 chipsets. It may not be as impressive as the latest flagship Qualcomm and MediaTek chips, though it will be an improvement over the Kirin 9010 on the Mate XT.
As for the release, there is no concrete information available yet. The Mate XT launched in September last year, and we can expect a similar launch timeframe for the successor.
