SILANG, Cavite , Philippines — A construction worker was killed while two others were reported missing in a landslide at a construction site in this town on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. in Barangay Cabanggaan amid heavy rain brought by the southwest monsoon and an incoming storm, according to Rosario Jose of the Silang disaster risk reduction and management office.
The landslide was reportedly triggered by the collapse of a retaining wall next to a fence that was being constructed on a higher ground.
Heavy rain caused the wall and the ground to collapse, burying the barracks where four workers, including two siblings were resting.
Only the roof of the structure remained visible after the incident.
Emergency responders from Silang and Tagaytay disaster offices along with police and firefighters retrieved two workers from the rubble. One of the workers was rushed to a hospital for treatment, while the other died at the scene.
Search efforts are ongoing for the two missing workers.
