The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered the 90-day suspension of the driver’s license of a pickup driver caught on video physically assaulting an elderly bus driver following a traffic altercation in Silang, Cavite.
The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, showed the driver of a Toyota Hilux (plate number NDQ2345), identified as Arny Jose Montes, repeatedly striking a public utility bus (PUB) driver along a public road.
According to a police report from the Silang Municipal Police Station, the altercation occurred after the Toyota Hilux allegedly made a right turn and collided with the bus. The confrontation escalated when Montes got out of his vehicle and attacked the bus driver.
In response, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the LTO issued a Show Cause Order directing Montes to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on October 24, 2025, and explain why he should not be charged with Reckless Driving and Obstruction, as well as why his license should not be permanently revoked.
Pending the results of the investigation, the Toyota Hilux has been placed under ALARM status, preventing any transactions involving the vehicle. Montes’s driver’s license has also been preventively suspended for 90 days, effective immediately.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez condemned the incident, stressing that abusive behavior on the road will not be tolerated.
“Hindi tayo hihinto sa pagsuspinde ng lisensya ng mga driver na sangkot sa road rage. Lalo na sa insidenteng ito, kitang-kita sa video kung paano nya sinaktan ‘yung matandang driver. Hindi natin palalampasin ang ganyang mga maling asal,” Lopez said.
The LTO warned that failure to appear or submit a verified explanation will be considered a waiver of rights, and the case will proceed based on existing evidence.
