MANILA, Philippines — Civil works for the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge is scheduled to begin in July, kicking off with the P11-billion construction of land approaches that will serve as ramps for vehicles.
Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan yesterday said his agency is close to issuing the contract packages (CPs) for land-based segments of the P175.66-billion bridge that would connect Bataan and Cavite.
“I think we are in the process of finalizing the bids and, perhaps, we will start the construction of two contract packages, land-based contract packages, on or before July,” Bonoan said.
Based on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) annual procurement plan, the land approaches for the bridge are covered in CPs 1 and 2. The notice of award for the contracts are set to be issued on July 4, while signing will be on July 13.
CP 1, costing P7.3 billion, covers the delivery of 6.89 kilometers in land approach on the Bataan side. CP 2, amounting to P3.43 billion, involves the land approach on the Cavite end.
Afterward, Bonoan said the DPWH would seek out contractors for the structures under CPs 3, 4, 5 and 6, which would cost nearly P153 billion combined.
The DPWH will bid out CPs 3 and 5 jointly, costing P55.1 billion, covering the construction of the marine viaduct, cable-stayed bridge and approach spans on the northern segment.
CP 4, totaling P46.8 billion, comprises the southern marine viaduct, while CP 6, priced at P50.85 billion, involves the channel and approach bridges near Cavite.
The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will extend for 32.15 kilometers across Manila Bay, linking Mariveles in Bataan and Naic in Cavite. The project aims to cut travel time between Bataan and Cavite to only 45 minutes, from the current 5.5 hours.
