An iconic hotdog chain is one step closer to its Reno comeback after filing a permit for a spot inside a Walmart.
A building permit was filed Monday, Oct. 20, for a Wienerschnitzel quick-serve restaurant at the Walmart on Kietzke Lane. The tenant improvement permit for a commercial remodel and addition to the store is under review.
The permit comes nine months after the longstanding Wienerschnitzel on Mill Street closed in January. It was subjected to an eminent domain claim for a road widening project by the Regional Transportation Commission.
In May, the company said it was returning to Reno with a location inside a Reno Walmart, but declined to say which one. The recently filed permit confirms the new Wienerschnitzel will be at the Walmart on 4855 Kietzke Lane.
The Reno location is one of six Walmarts in the United States to get a Wienerschnitzel, according to the company. The locations are:
The new locations will serve the full Wienerschnitzel menu, including chili cheese dogs, corn dogs, chili cheese fries, jalapeño poppers and soft-serve desserts.
Wienerschnitzel also picked Nevada as a test market to sell two popular menu items in grocery stores.
In October, Wienerschnitzel started selling frozen chili cheese and corn dogs at Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Albertsons and Vons stores in Nevada. The products will be available at these area Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores:
