Revenge is being seen as a possible motive behind the fatal shooting during a barangay hall flag ceremony in Barangay Salitran 3 in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on Monday morning.
According to Mark Salazar’s report in “24 Oras,” the suspect was allegedly removed from his post as barangay tanod due to his diabetes.
(In February, he was still getting paid and was able to go to work despite his diabetes. In May, he went to collect his salary from the treasurer, but he was not given anything. The reason being that his salary was on hold. He was removed from his post because he was being ineffective and could no longer go to work because of his condition.)
Video footage shows the barangay employees standing at attention during the flag ceremony. The gunman then walks into the crowd and begins shooting.
According to the report, the suspect shot the barangay captain and a kagawad, then chased another kagawad into the barangay hall and shot them as well as the Sangguniang Kabataan secretary.
The barangay captain and the two kagawads died, while the SK secretary is being treated in a hospital.
The gunman then returned home and shot himself.
But police said that the suspect might have really been after the barangay treasurer.
(The witnesses in the area said that he was looking for the treasurer right after he shot the barangay captain and the two kagawads. He was shouting and walked his way home on foot.)
Authorities recovered two .45-caliber magazines, but the gun has not yet been found. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM/KG, GMA Integrated News
