Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga expressed strong criticism on social media following the appointment of Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the country’s new Ombudsman.
In a post, Barzaga claimed that Remulla’s new role could be used to target political opponents:
“With Remulla as the new Ombudsman, the Marcos Administration will be able to freely imprison those against Romualdez like Marcoleta, Cayetano, and Tiangco. People power is the only path to justice now!” he wrote.
Barzaga’s statement reflects growing concerns among some lawmakers and political commentators about potential abuses of power under the current administration. Critics argue that the Ombudsman, tasked with ensuring accountability in government, must remain impartial to uphold public trust.
The post quickly drew reactions from netizens online, with some expressing alarm and frustration. Comments included: “Grabe na, exit plan na sila. Wala na mangyayari dito,” “Nakakalungkot na katotohanan grabe,” “Lord God please Save the Philippines 😭🙏🙏🙏.”
Malacanang on Tuesday, October 7 announced Remulla as the Ombudsman of the Philippines. He replaces former Ombudsman Samuel Martires who retired in July.
