NOVELETA, Cavite — Thousands of students and personnel from various government offices and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) in Cavite joined the simultaneous 2025 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on Saturday under the theme “Clean Seas Against the Climate Crisis.”
Volunteers removed plastic waste, bottles and other items in a cleanup which was part of a simultaneous international cleanup to protect the oceans.
In Noveleta town, particularly along Barangay San Rafael III to Sitio Long Beach in Barangay San Rafael IV, more than a thousand volunteers that included Mayor Davey Chua, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office under Leah Olidan-Balen, and volunteers from 16 barangay (villages), NGOs, various schools, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau Calabarzon, River Rangers, Philippine Coast Guard, Local and Maritime Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Office of Cavite 1st District Rep. Jolo Revilla and various branches of the municipal government joined the ICC.

“Let’s make it a habit of avoiding plastic use, and this is one of the local government’s programs to always use reusable bags or eco bags. That way, pollution in our area will be reduced. This is the only thing we can pass on to our children in the future to protect the environment,” said Mayor Chua during a brief talk before volunteers in the area.
The City of Bacoor, Cavite City and the towns of Kawit, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon and Ternate also participated in the ICC.
In Imus City, Mayor Alex Advincula led the cleaning of the waterways in the city, together with its 65 villages to clean the canals, particularly along Malagasang to Medicion and Imus River, in preparation for the typhoons.
The Binibining GenTri Foundation of Cenro GenTri and hundreds of volunteers also joined the cleaning at Sitio ng Barangay San Francisco.
Tons of garbage collected by the cleaners were then hauled away by garbage trucks of their respective towns and cities.
