CAVITE, Philippines – The whole province of Cavite is now on alert in 23 areas due to the dramatic increase in dengue cases so far this year.
The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) recorded 3,379 cases in the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City from January 1 to February 22.
According to Dr. Nelson Soriano, provincial health officer of Cavite, the number of cases is 409% higher compared to the same period last year.
There were 664 dengue cases in Cavite in the first two months of 2024.
Ten areas in the province recorded more than 100 cases of dengue:
Out of the total number in the whole province, 33 or 1% were described as severe cases, 2,126 or 63% had warning signs, and 1,220 or 36% had no warning signs.

Mayor Alex Advincula of Imus said the City Health Office and City Environment Office has conducted misting and fogging in every sitio and barangay to fight dengue.
