The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday live-streamed the bidding for the contract package 1 (CP1) of the 32.15-kilometer Manila Bay Project, also known as the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) Project.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said that the live-streaming is among the measures the DPWH implemented to stem the tide of corruption.
“The entire proceedings were livestreamed on social media in compliance with the President’s directive to ensure transparency, public access, and accountability in the bidding process of DPWH projects,” Dizon said.
Among the bidders were Beijing Urban Construction Group Co. Ltd., D.M. Consunji Inc., China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., Sino Road and Bridge Group Co. Ltd., EEI – PMI Joint Venture, POSCO E&C – Sta. Clara Joint Venture, China Wu Yi Co. Ltd. / Fujian Road & Bridge Construction Group Co. Ltd. (Consortium) and Hunan Road & Bridge Construction Group Ltd. and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Joint Venture.
Dizon said that the bridge, once completed, would cut travel time between the provinces of Bataan and Cavite from 5 1⁄2 hours to just about 45 minutes.
The project aims to address Metro Manila’s perennial traffic congestion problem.
CP1 covers the construction of the Bataan Land Approach, with an approved agency estimate of ₱7.25 billion. Major structure components of this package include the trumpet interchange that connects the BCIB with Roman Highway, Roman Interchange Bridge, Alas-Asin Main Bridge, Alas-Asin Overpass Bridge, Mt. View Overpass Bridge, Mt. View Waterway Bridge, and the Bataan Land Viaduct.
