Fourteen public schools in Amadeo, Cavite have resumed classes after almost two weeks of cancellation due to the Taal Volcano eruption.
In a Thursday report by Mariz Umali on 24 Oras, Amadeo National Highschool Principal IV Rufina Cortez said that the students were getting left behind due to the cancellation.
“Marami rin po kaming dapat mai-meet na mga competencies na dapat ma-master ng mga bata,” Cortez said.
The returning students, with parents, teachers, and volunteer workers from the Department of Health, worked together to clean up the Amadeo National Highschool.
Some evacuees also lent their hands in exchange for P500 a day.
Meanwhile, members of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers examined the classrooms for possible problems in electrical wiring.
During their inspection, they noted cracks in the foundation of the rooms as well as large cracks on the second floor.
“Pag humina po ‘yung pundasyon, posible po’ng magiba ang building,” Gensen Cariño, one of the engineers, said.
They advised school authorities not to use the classrooms with cracks.
