The Commission on Elections has directed senatorial candidate Camille Villar to respond to allegations of vote-buying at an event she attended in Imus, Cavite, in February.
Comelec Executive Director Atty. Teopisto Elnas Jr., head of the Committee on Kontra Bigay, required Villar to explain within three days of receipt of the show cause order why a complaint for election offense and/or petition for disqualification should not be filed against her.
The show cause order was issued on Tuesday, April 22.

On Tuesday, Elnas said they acted on an anonymous complaint, which contained a Facebook video wherein Villar was seen on stage while local aspirants were allegedly raffling cash prizes to the public.
The video was posted on February 16, but Elnas said the anti-vote-buying committee is still investigating if the event occurred during the campaign period.
Villar has denied the allegation, saying the event happened on February 9, “which was way before the campaign period,” which began on February 11.
“I vehemently deny any allegation or insinuation of vote buying or commission of any election offense for that matter,” she said. “I am confident that the Comelec will clear my name of these wrongful allegations upon hearing my side on the matter.” — VBL, GMA Integrated News
