A police officer has been arrested for allegedly committing acts of lasciviousness on a cadet at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite, according to the Police Regional Office 4A (PRO4A) on Thursday.
Based on a police report confirmed by PRO4A to GMA News Online, the 23-year-old victim on July 31 had a drinking session with the 35-year-old suspect.
The suspect allegedly asked the victim for a message, which led to the supposed acts of lasciviousness around 2:30 a.m.
After the incident, the victim then sought the assistance of the duty guard in the building and their superior.
The suspect was arrested.
According to the police, the suspect will be subjected to inquest proceedings and medical examination. His relatives have already been informed of his arrest.
Meanwhile, the police said the victim will be referred for psychological intervention.
In a statement, the PNPA appealed for the protection of the victim’s privacy.
“As the victim continues to receive psychological support, the PNPA appeals for the protection of his privacy,” PNPA said in a social media post.
“In light of this incident, the Academy is taking decisive steps to strengthen its internal mechanisms, including the tightening of vetting procedures for all personnel assigned to PNPA. Rest assured, this is an isolated incident, and the institution does not—and will never—condone such acts,” it added.
National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) vice chairperson and executive officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the suspect will be subject to investigation and administrative proceedings.
“Hindi po talaga puwede ang pulis ay involved sa mga ganitong klaseng kaparaanan [It is really unacceptable for police officers to be involved in these kinds of matters]. Simply because they have sworn duty to serve and protect the people. If our policemen are involved in these types of acts then we have a very big problem,” he told reporters in an interview.
Calinisan said that such acts have no place in the PNPA and involved officials should be held accountable.
“Secondly, this is the PNPA. So wala talagang puwang ang ganitong klaseng mga actuations ng kung sinuman sa loob ng PNPA at dapat masawat po agad ito. Lalo pong urgent na panagutin natin ang mga opisyal na involved po sa insidenteng ganito,” he added.
(There is really no place for these kinds of actions within the PNP and must be stopped. It is more urgent that the officials involved in this incident be held accountable.) — with Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
