The bus driver involved in the viral road rage incident in Silang, Cavite, has forgiven the SUV passenger who physically assaulted him, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a report by Edniel Parrosa, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the 52-year-old bus driver, who was initially mistaken for a senior citizen, agreed to an amicable settlement.
“Na-settle naman po kinabukasan ‘yung kaso at nag-execute po ng affidavit of no interest to file criminal charges,” said Tuaño in a press briefing.
The deal reportedly included compensation of not less than ₱40,000 and other expenses shouldered by the 33-year-old male suspect.
Meanwhile, investigations by the Silang Police revealed that the Toyota Hilux pickup involved in the incident was being driven by a woman seen in the viral video. Her male companion allegedly became enraged when the bus driver stepped out of his vehicle and shouted at them, prompting the assault that was later captured on video and spread widely on social media.
Despite the settlement, authorities said the Silang Police are still coordinating with the LTO to determine if the Hilux driver may have committed other possible violations during the incident.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) had already suspended the driver’s license of the suspect involved in the altercation.
