RESIDENTS of the riverside areas in General Trias City, Cavite on Sunday were temporarily evacuated to shelters ahead of the entry of Super Typhoon Uwan into the province.
A total of 652 families or 2,395 individuals were brought to 27 temporary shelters in the city under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office supervised by Bengky Generoso.
Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV ordered all concerned officials led by City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Ariel Avila to bring residents along the riverside to the nearest evacuation centers in each barangay so that they are safe from flooding.
The local chief executive also assured that they are safe and have food ready, which is being managed by the barangay captains.
According to Bacao 1 village chair Erwin Pernala, the residents living along the riverbank are set to move to their relocation site in Bgy. Santiago for safer living condition.
Generoso said the evacuees are mostly living along the riverside.
On Sunday noon, the General Trias City mayor visited the evacuess and checked on their conditions.
